Minesweeper is a video game created by Curt Johnson. First released in 1990 as part of Microsoft Entertainment Pack.
The goal of Minesweeper is to uncover all squares on a grid that do not contain mines without clicking a mine.
Numbers on squares show how many mines are next to them. Players use logic to figure out where mines are located.
Early versions of the game included a cheat code that allowed players to see under tiles.
A version called Flower Field replaced mines with flowers in some versions of Windows.
Microsoft removed Minesweeper from Windows 8 and released it as a free game in the Microsoft Store. See Windows releases.
The game has been called an iconic part of the Windows operating system.
Minesweeper was originally designed to teach people how to use a computer mouse.
